Adoniram Lodge of Mark Master Masons. No.532

Leyland Masonic Suite, Wellington Park, Burlington Gardens,Leyland.  Weds 21st March 2018

What a great way to spend a morning followed by a light lunch amongst friends old and new, if you haven’t yet attended a meeting of Adoniram Lodge put it on your list as a must do. Set off early as usual but just before going up the famous on ramp I realised I had forgotten my case, turn round go back home and there it was, no not inside but on the drive near to the front door, ah well let’s try again, I can only put it down to the remnants of the virus from Hell which I am just about shaking off. Good run this time all the way to Leyland, a few car parking spaces left however none of which my poor old Opel would fit in to, however someone spotted my endeavours and guided me round to a slightly wider space, made it.

Upstairs lots of activity many of the 250 plus members had arrived and were happily chatting away in anticipation of the meeting about to take place, the Lodge opened on time at 11 am with the W.M. W. Bro. John C Bicknell PGJD, ProvGSec in control, on this occasion he was accompanied by the IPM VW Bro. Rod Bennison PGJO and supported by Dep.ProvGM, V.W.Bro. Geoffrey H Lee, PGJO and Asst Prov GM V.W. Bro. Ian D Nairn. Once all the general summons items had been dealt with including the election of the WM, Treasurer, Charity Steward and Tyler for the ensuing had taken place W.Bro.Dr.P.A.Renton PProvGReg was invited on to the floor of the Lodge where he presented an illustrated presentation entitled “The History and Development of the Mark Degree” with a sub title “How the Solomonic Degrees were Split Assunder! This was received with loud acclaim and I’m sure that every Mason present had learned something about the long struggle which had taken place all those many years ago to establish the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons and the Mark Degree in general, excellent.

Just before the meeting came to its conclusion I was very surprised to be called out on to the floor of the Lodge where I was presented with a collar and jewel as a Vice Patron of The Mark Benevolent Fund by DepPGM Geoffrey Lee who was kind enough to say some very nice words about all my efforts not only in respect of the Mark Degree but with regards also to the work I have done in creating the new Masonic Hall in Urmston, Manchester as Chairman for the past four years, holding this position himself and being very experienced in business  he completely understands the endless hours and thankless tasks needed to keep things going in this day and age. I was moved by his words for which I sincerely thank him.

A quick photo shoot then it was off to the lunchtime Festive board, as is usual the food was excellent and served up by very efficient staff, lots of friendly chat and smiles which seems to be unique to the wonderful Mark Degree, the usual interesting Toasts and Responses followed on from the meal and all too soon it was time for W.Bro.E.Gavan PGStdB, ProvGTyler to deliver the Tyler’s Toast, all the goodbyes said and it was out into the very pleasant sunshine for everyone to make their way home to all parts of the Province, here’s looking forward to the next Mark Meeting to meet friends I know and those I have yet to meet,
